A perennial grown as an annual in the north country. These large flowered violas are competing with their pansy cousins as superstars of the cool season garden. A perennial that has excellent cold tolerance but grown as an annual in Alaska. The spreading plants are compact, 6 to 8 inches tall, with 1 to 1 ½ inch diameter, bi-color flowers patterned with rays or lines in a deeper or contrasting color. This stunning old fashioned variety is excellent as a bedding plant and for container gardens. Sow early indoors for a show of color throughout summer until frost when the old blossoms are removed. Plant violas in a sunny spot with afternoon shade.
