A perennial, member of the mint family that is grown in Alaska as an annual. Catnip has aromatic gray-green leaves on square mint stems and clusters of small, white, tubular blossoms. It is well known for the way its leaves and blossoms attract and delight cats. However, its lemony-mint-scented leaves are also excellent when used fresh, crushed or dried for brewing teas or tonics and as a seasoning.
